Homework
Reading
In Year 1, reading is a part of children's homework. Your child should read the book given to them twice to develop fluency, practise their reading comprehension and recognise trickier words easily the next time they see them. Please date and sign your child’s diary every time you hear them read.
Please remind them to put their reading pack in the box in the morning once they have read the whole book twice so it can be changed. Children do not need to finish their book in one day — a few pages each night is perfect. We will monitor reading at home and will be reading with children during school time.
Spellings
Children will receive weekly spellings as part of their homework. Children will need to practise spellings weekly for their quiz on Wednesday.
Please don’t use the book itself for practice, as we will need to keep it tidy for weekly tests.
Your child will also have a login card to Spelling Shed which years 1-6 use. There are various games on there to help your child learn in an alternative way if you prefer.
