House Points
At St Luke's we’re proud of our house system — four friendly houses that bring everyone together, make learning more fun and help children grow as learners and citizens. Our houses are Maple, Oak, Cedar and Willow. Every child belongs to one house and we celebrate teamwork, kindness and healthy competition all year round.
Our school houses were created with the help of our School Council, who asked all the children to share their ideas for possible house themes. After much discussion and voting, the pupils decided that our houses should be named after trees. The children felt that trees are a wonderful symbol of how we grow, learn and support one another — with strong roots, steady growth and branches that reach for new heights. This theme reflects our school’s vision of helping every child to flourish and succeed, just like the trees our houses are named after: Maple, Oak, Cedar and Willow.
Why we have houses
Houses help build a strong, caring school community by:
-
encouraging teamwork across year groups
-
rewarding effort, kindness and good learning habits
-
giving children chances to take responsibility
-
making special days — like Sports Day — more exciting and inclusive
Awarding House Points
All members of staff can award House Points to any child, at any time and for any reason if they are caught demonstrating the school Christian values.
Children can also be awarded house points for a variety of reasons. For example: being polite, well mannered behaviour, demonstrating a caring attitude towards peers, working to the best of their ability, good attendance, putting special effort into a piece of work, preparing neatly presented work, showing a positive attitude towards work, good attitude, sporting achievement, taking part in competitions and events, representing their house or school.
Meet the houses
Maple (red) — The Maple house is all about creativity and kindness. Maples are curious learners who look out for one another.
Oak (green) — Oak stands for resilience and respect. Oak pupils try their best, bounce back from challenges and lead by example.
Cedar (yellow) — Cedar celebrates curiosity and determination. Cedars love asking questions, solving problems and trying new things.
Willow (blue) — Willow champions empathy and teamwork. Willows are great listeners and brilliant at working together.
St Luke's CE Primary School - Vision, Aims and Values
Our vision is founded on St Luke’s parable of the Sower, where,
Through God’s love, we are the rich soil where roots grow and seeds flourish. Luke 8:4-15
Our aims as a school are that we will give children fulfilling learning opportunities, we will nurture social, emotional and moral well-being and we serve our Church, our village and our community.
To fulfil these aims, as a whole school community, we strive to show our values of:
Kindness – we will show consideration and try to do the right thing for others
Thankfulness – we will appreciate what God has given us and what others do for us
Forgiveness – we will not hurt back if we have been hurt
Aspiration – we will aim to be the best we can be
Perseverance – we will not give up when things are difficult
